Completed in 1853, Belmont Mansion was the home of Adelicia Hayes Franklin Acklen Cheatham, a woman made wealthy from her first marriage, and her second husband, Joseph Acklen. Imagined as a summer home for the couple and their children. the Italianate villa remains elaborately ornamented and furnished, and visitors to the mansion can take a guided tour of residence and its surrounding gardens, replete with decorative pieces of marble sculpture and 19th-century cast iron ornaments. The lovely residence and gardens are positioned on the campus of Belmont University, just a few miles south of downtown Nashville.
Tours run Mon. - Sat. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Sun. 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
